I am presenting my first painting, Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, for Lent this year. This is the first stage of the “Stations of the Cross,” and takes place in the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus goes with some of his disciples. Jesus asked them to sit and wait while he went into the wood to pray. He said to them, “My soul is sorrowful even to death. Remain here an keep watch with me.”
When he returns they are asleep. He said to Peter; “So you could not keep watch with me for one hour? Watch and pray that you may not undergo the test. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

The painting is oil and shellac on a walnut wood panel and is 24 x 24 inches. It was completed late in 2006.

I have just finished the sixth station, Veronica Wiped the Face of Jesus.
This incident does not come from scriptures. Legend tells us that Veronica gave Jesus her kerchief, out of pity for his suffering. She wiped his face with it and the image of his face imprinted. Stories circulated of the miraculous healing that occurred when Veronica presented the cloth. Emperor Tiberius demanded the woman bring the cloth portrait to heal him of a grievous illness. He worshipped the image and was healed.

The painting is oil birch wood panel and is 24 x 24 inches. It was completed in early 2007.

The paintings will be on display at:
